Do workers really want their employer's help with financial wellbeing?

Background: Alight’s 2025 Employee Mindset Study included questions for people who work at large organizations across the U.S. regarding their financial wellbeing and their interest in assistance from employers to improve it.

Findings: Amid ongoing layoffs, elevated inflation, and widespread economic uncertainty, employees are feeling financially frustrated. In 2025, only 42% of workers reported feeling confident about their financial situation, a decrease from 46% in 2023.

When asked about ways to improve their financial wellbeing, workers overwhelmingly said they want support from their employers. Although increased pay can help, nearly half identified a lack of guidance and limited access to appropriate resources as the primary barriers to better financial wellbeing. Many employers have the capacity to offer financial wellbeing tools; however, most currently think it isn’t their role to provide this support to workers.

Bottom Line: Workers say they want—and need—help to improve their financial wellbeing. Employers who offer such assistance can distinguish themselves and strengthen their ability to attract, develop, and retain a productive workforce.
